Jeremy B. Widder
Jeremy B. Widder joined Hammad Matin Law in September 2018. His primary area of practice is Criminal Defense. Mr. Widder is a seasoned trial lawyer who fights hard for his clients and is known for his comprehensive legal knowledge.
From 2009 until 2018, Mr. Widder was an Assistant State’s Attorney in Charles County, Maryland, where he tried sixty jury trials and hundreds of bench trials. He has taken to trial some of the most serious and infamous cases in the county including murder, attempted murder, rape, arson, burglary, robbery, vehicular manslaughter, drug distribution, assault, and DUI. Mr. Widder was recognized for professional excellence in 2014 as the inaugural Assistant State’s Attorney of the Year.
Mr. Widder is a nationally renowned law school trial advocacy coach with both American University Washington College of Law and Georgetown University Law Center. He coached the 2013 National Trial Competition national champions, as well as the 2014 and 2015 regional champions and 2018 regional finalists. He also coached the 2015 National Civil Rights Competition champions. Mr. Widder is a regular featured speaker at the National Coaches Clinic.
Raised in Silver Spring, Maryland, Mr. Widder received his Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree in 2009 from Georgetown University Law Center. While in law school, he represented clients in D.C. Superior Court and in federal parole revocation hearings as part of the Criminal Justice Clinic. He was also an active member of the Barristers’ Council Trial Advocacy program and received the Greenfield Trial Practice Award. He received an Outstanding Attorney Award at the ABA National Criminal Justice Trial Advocacy Competition. Mr. Widder also clerked in the U.S. Attorney’s Office in Greenbelt, MD for two summers.
