Dealing with Debt Following a Divorce

After you get divorced, you may have significant debt due to legal fees, debts incurred during marriage (even those only attributed to one partner), and alimony or child support. If your partner has outstanding debts, you will want to speak with your divorce attorney about including a clause that relieves you of responsibility if your ex-spouse defaults on the debt.
